By Thorndale Fire Company
October 3, 2020

On Saturday 10/3/2020 just after 1600hours, Station 38 and several area mutual aid companies were dispatched to the 1500blk of Hillcrest Dr in West Bradford for a house fire. Chief 39 arrived on-scene first to find a single-family dwelling with smoke showing from the roof area. Neighbors reported that they didn’t believe anyone was home and that there were three dogs still in the house.

Engine 38 arrived as the first due engine and stretched a cross-lay 1¾” handline to the front door and forced entry into the residence. Engine 38s crew made entry into the residence and immediately went to the attic where they were met with heavy fire conditions. Crews from 39, 37 and 36 arrived on scene next and assisted with interior operations. Additional handlines were stretched from Engine 38 for back-up. Crews from 38, 39, 37 and 36 worked quickly to contain the fire to the attic area and began to check for remaining fire throughout the house. Tower 45 arrived and placed their tower-ladder to the roof in the event roof operations would need to occur. Crews were able to remove all three dogs from the residence safely.

Several units supplied their water to Engine 38 during the operation. Engine 38 remained on scene for several hours while salvage and overhaul operations occurred. Traffic 38 assisted Station 39 Fire Police with traffic and crowd control around the incident scene. Thank you to West Whiteland Fire Company for providing coverage while we operated on this incident and for assisting us in getting the handlines repacked on Engine 38 once we returned to station.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family affected by this incident. Photos courtesy of Irisheyez Photography
