| For many fire departments, October marks the beginning of a very busy time, Fire Prevention month. Thorndale Fire Company is no exception to that. Volunteers and Staff from Caln Township Department of Building of Life Safety educate over 800 kids, parents and teachers each year at schools and daycares throughout the township.
On October 5th, Thorndale Fire Company and Caln Township Firefighters hosted our annual Fire Prevention Open House. Residents of all ages gathered to learn important fire safety tips, meet local firefighters, and explore the equipment used to protect their community. The event provided an opportunity for families to connect with local fire and emergency personnel while learning how to prevent fires and respond safely in an emergency.
Visitors had the opportunity to tour the fire station, see fire engines and emergency equipment up close, and speak with firefighters about their roles in protecting lives and property. Educational activities highlighted the importance of working smoke alarms, developing a home fire escape plan, and knowing what to do when a fire occurs.
Firefighters emphasized that fire prevention begins at home. Residents were encouraged to test smoke alarms monthly, replace batteries as needed according to manufacturer recommendations, identify two ways out of every room when possible, and establish a safe meeting place outside the home.
Children and families also had an opportunity to ask questions, learn about firefighting equipment, and better understand the training and teamwork required to respond to emergencies. Fire prevention is about more than responding to emergencies. It's about helping people understand how to prevent fires and stay safe before an emergency happens. The open house was part of the community's fire prevention education efforts, helping residents recognize potential hazards and take practical steps to protect their families.
Residents are encouraged to make fire safety a priority throughout the year by checking smoke alarms, practicing home escape plans, and teaching children how to call 911 during an emergency.
