On December 27th at 22:25 hours Engine 38 was dispatched as part of the first alarm assignment to N. Hawthorne Drive to assist the East Brandywine Hospital with a reported house fire. First arriving officers on scene found a two-story, single-family dwelling with heavy fire showing from both the first and second floors. A working fire dispatch was immediately requested.
Engine 38 arrived on the scene as the second due Engine and crews began advancing 1 3/4" attack lines to division 1 and division 2. Due to worsening conditions, Command declared an evacuation of the building and to move to exterior operations to attack the fire. Ladder 49 and Ladder 6 laddered the roof and crews opened the roof to access fire in the attic area and provided ventilation. The fire was placed under control at 23:24:41 with all crews working. The fire was extinguished and overhaul was performed.
