December 26, 2025

Station 38 along with mutual aid were dispatched to Hazelwood Avenue for a reported house fire. The reporting party indicated they had smoke in their attic after a Chimney Fire earlier in the day. Chief 38 arrived on the scene of a 2-story single family dwelling with nothing evident from the exterior sides Alpha and Bravo. Chief 38 established Hazelwood command and requested an operations channel.

Engine 38 arrived on scene, and the crew went to division 2 to investigate. Upon accessing the attic area, the crew confirmed smoke in the attic and saw fire in the roof joists by the chimney. The crew reported the roof on fire and requested a 1 3/4" attack line be advanced to the attic area. Upon further investigation they further requested a pressurized water extinguisher be brought to the attic to extinguish the fire in the joist.

Command directed Engine 76-2 to reverse lay to the hydrant located at Hazelwood and Jewel Avenues. Fire Police closed Hazelwood Avenue at Jewel and Oak Lane. Hazlewood Ave Engine 49-5 arrived and connected to Engine 38 to provide a water source if required. Tower 45 arrived and were directed to ladder the roof by the chimney to begin opening up that area for better access.

The crew from the tower and the attic opened the roof area and exposed the area around the chimney and joists to extinguish the rest of the fire. Command held the response to 2 and 1 and returned the remaining apparatus. The fire was placed under control at 16:29.

Command requested Belfor to the scene to board up the roof. With no further fire company services required, command was terminated and all units were cleared.
