By Deputy Chief Donald Taylor
June 9, 2025

On Saturday night June 7th at approximately 10:30 PM the Thorndale Fire Company and MICU 146-2 were dispatched to mile marker 276.1 of the Eastbound route 30 bypass for an automobile accident with unknown injuries. Responding units were being informed by the Chester County Communications Center there were reports of a vehicle overturned with a tree down across the highway. Additional assistance was requested from Engine 76-2 for manpower and equipment. MICU 146-2 arrived on the scene and confirmed the overturned vehicle with a tree across both Eastbound lanes extending into the Westbound passing lane.
The occupant was out of the overturned vehicle. Deputy Chief Taylor arrived on the scene establishing 30 Bypass Command and requested additional fire police from Wagontown to assist with closing the Eastbound bypass at Reeceville Road. MICU 146-2 was also reporting a second vehicle from the accident approximately 1/4 mile East from the overturned vehicle requiring two additional EMS units. Due to the tree across the highway the two additional units were being advised to access the accident scene traveling Westbound in the Eastbound lanes from route 340. Based on the nature and expected duration of the incident a Fire police task force was requested to assist with the Eastbound closure.

Units and personnel from Westwood, and Sadsburyville fulfilled that assignment. The crews from the Stations 38 and 76 began the removal process of the tree while awaiting PennDOTs response. The occupants from the vehicles were transported to Paoli Memorial Hospital and Trauma Center for further assessment. The Eastbound bypass was reopened at 12:30 AM following the investigation by Pennsylvania State Police and the highway being cleared of the vehicles and remaining debris.
