By Thorndale Fire Company
January 21, 2025

Around 10:45 hours Station 38, Engine 76-2 and MICU 146-2 were dispatched to the Eastbound route 30 bypass for an auto accident reported as serious involving a tractor trailer. Initial reports given were possible ejection and tractor trailer overturned with vehicle under the tractor trailer. Deputy 38 arrived on the scene along with Rescue 38 and confirmed a tractor trailer overturned with the tractor over the embankment and the vehicle blocking the Eastbound lanes. Crews began investigating for any possible ejection over the embankment. Deputy 38 established bypass command. Upon investigation, no one was found to have been ejected and no injuries for the involved parties.

Bypass Command requested a Fire Police Task Force be dispatched to close the Eastbound route 30 bypass at route 322 and route 340. It was also requested to close the Eastbound on ramp at 322 and 340. Further requests were then made to have PennDOT respond to assist with closing the bypass Eastbound. Pennsylvania State Police requested Null towing respond to the scene with their heavy equipment to clear the incident scene. Once the bypass was closed, State Police Troopers began working to turn vehicles around and have them go back Westbound in the Eastbound lanes to exit the bypass. The Eastbound bypass remained closed until the incident scene could be cleared of the vehicles involved and the freight that was being carried. With the incident scene being cleared the incident was turned over to PSP and PennDOT.
