On Saturday September 8, 2012, members of the Thorndale Volunteer Fire Company participated in Caln Community Day. It was a beautiful Fall day and the event was well attended by the community. The Thorndale firefighters were visited by many township residents who appreciated seeing the fire company apparatus up close. Youngsters were encouraged to climb into the various pieces of apparatus, including Thorndale's first engine, the 1939 Chevy on display that day. Over 200 plastic fire helmets were distributed to the kids. New this year, the TVFC and Caln Township administration arranged for the Fire Safety Trailer, owned by the Northern Chester County Fire Chiefs Association. This self contained trailer is a simulator used to show children how to safely escape from a burning building. Over 150 children toured the safety trailer. Many local businesses and service organizations were also represented at Caln Community Day. There was plenty of good food, pony rides and a petting zoo for the kids, and the Thorndale United Methodist Church also held a flea market. Representatives from local and state government were also in attendance at Caln Community Day. Caln Twp. Commissioners Vince Rose, Josh Young, and Lorraine Tindaro , as well as Chester County Commissioner Ryan Costello, State Representative Chris Ross and State Senator John Rafferty were all on hand to support the Caln Community Day. Thorndale Volunteer Fire Company is pleased to be part of Caln Community Day and we look forward to participating again next year. |
