While performing an annual commercial fire inspection Caln Township Fire Marshal’s noticed an odor and faint smoke coming from an extension cord being used to power an ice machine. Further investigation found that both the extension cord and ice machine cord were melted and burning. Chester County 911 dispatchers were notified which brought Thorndale Fire Company and Caln Township Firefighters to assist with checking for any extension and removal of residual smoke from the building.

The Caln Township Fire Marshal’s Office wants to remind you that extension cords are to be used for portable appliances only and should never be used in place of permanently wired outlets.
