May 10, 2018

A team of Emergency Responders from Thorndale Volunteer Fire Company were pleased to participate in the Hoagies for Heroes competition at the grand opening of the new Wawa on Reeceville Road on Thursday May 10, 2018.

Hoagies for Heroes is Wawa's way of showing support and appreciation to the men and women who serve as everyday heroes. The program supports local firefighters, police officers, and emergency responders. To celebrate their commitment to the communities that they serve, Wawa often holds Hoagies for Heroes hoagie building contests as part of their milestone events, such as store grand openings.

Three teams competed in the spirited, but friendly, hoagie building competition. An EMS team from Washington Hose Company and a team from the the Strawberry Festival squared off against Thorndale in the 3-minute contest. The Strawberry Festival team won the team trophy for building 29 hoagies while Thorndale and Washington Hose EMS each built 28.

Wawa presented each of the three teams with a check for $1,000.

The Thorndale Volunteer Fire Company welcomes the new Wawa on Reeceville Road to Caln Township.
