TFC Tours New Self Storage Facility in Caln Twp.

By Lieutenant Sean Barron
May 3, 2017

On the evening of Wednesday April 26th, the members of the Thorndale Volunteer Fire Company were graciously given a tour of the new Coatesville Self Storage facility located at 99 N. Caln Rd.

When a new business comes to Caln Township or an older building is renovated to the extent this property was, it's common for a fire company to tour the property and familiarize itself of all its ins and outs in case we need to respond to an emergency there. With a building this size, this is especially true. Responders learn where all the utilities are located, how to access the roof, location of all of its ingress/egress points, a general way around the many hallways, hydrant locations, sprinkler systems and in this case, how to enter through the property gate and find alarm panels.

Coatesville Self Storage was formally the old Royal Paper building. When Royal Paper moved its operations east, it left the building vacant and a great opportunity to be converted into self storage. After nearly a complete renovation inside and out, Coatesville Self Storage has a brand new look and feel and is opened to the public. Eventually this roughly 90,000 sq.' facility will hold about 500 to 600 storage units when fully operational. Coatesville Self Storage will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony on June 28 to celebrate its opening. The 4:30 p.m. event will include tours of the property at 99 N. Caln Road as well as refreshments and raffles.

The members of the fire company would like to thank Coatesville Self Storage for taking the time to help us keep the community safe and be more prepared to respond to this structure in case of an actual emergency. Special thanks to Matthew DePrato who drove up from York, PA to give us the tour after a long day at work. As always, thanks to IrishEyez Photography for the pictures.

If you would like to join the Thorndale Volunteer Fire Company, please drop us a line at Recruitment@ThorndaleFireCompany.com or stop in sometime and meet the crew. You will easily find us at the station on Wednesday nights from 7-10.
